Over the past few years, and in the last year in particular, we have seen a rising tide of hatred in our country. Antisemitic rhetoric, threats, and violence have somehow become commonplace. And we know that hate begets more hate and, as Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt says, the destinies of vulnerable, minority communities are bound up with each other.
On November 15, Congregation Kol Ami could not have two better folks to be in conversation about where we are and where we need to go. Amy Spitalnick is a rising powerful and important voice responding to antisemitism and hate, gaining notoriety for successfully suing the neo-Nazis who organized the hate-filled rally in Charlottesville in 2017. The Rev. Al Sharpton remains a leading voice in the Civil Rights Movement. In recent years he has worked with the Reform Movement 2019 RAC Consultation on Conscience recognizing that in the past he could have “done more to heal, rather than to harm.” And over the past year he has regularly stood by the Jewish community, bringing Jewish communal leaders to his MSNBC program to speak about October 7 and the crisis of antisemitism in America.
