Music was a robust and integral part of the ancient Israelite religion practiced in the Jerusalem Temple. While the Rabbis of the Mishnah and Talmud largely limited musical practice as they mourned over the destruction of the temple, they also had fascinating discussions about the role and power of music. Solomon will share original research on how tracking the development of these texts over time can help us to see the progression of thought about music over several hundred years. Join us as we dissect these texts, and connect them to our own experiences of music and prayer. Visit www.mishkanhaam.org.
