DESCRIPTION:Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies (WIJS) at Young Israel
  of New Rochelle is proud to present Gila Fine on Sunday\, December 7\, 20
 25 @ 10:00 am (ET) on Zoom.  Fine will be the third speaker of the 2025-2
 026 season in the monthly scholarly programming offered by WIJS at YINR.\n
 \nIn her lecture\, Fine will discuss her book\, The Madwoman in the Rabbi
 ’s Attic: Rereading the Women of the Talmud\, an exploration of the six 
 named heroines of the Talmud.  She will specifically address compelling q
 uestions such as ‘How does the Talmud portray its heroines? Why are they
  never as they first seem? And what does this tell us about the rabbis’
  views of marriage\, sex\, childbirth\, and what it means to be a woman i
 n the world?’\n\nGila Fine is an award-winning author and lecturer of ra
 bbinic literature\, exploring the tales of the Talmud through philosophy\,
  literary criticism\, psychoanalysis\, and pop-culture. Her book\, The Ma
 dwoman in the Rabbi’s Attic: Rereading the Women of the Talmud\, won the
  74th National Jewish Book Award and the 2024 Rabbi Sacks Book Prize. Gila
  serves on the faculties of Shalem College\, the Pardes Institute of Jewis
 h Studies\, the Tikvah Scholars Program\, the Nachshon Project\, and Amudi
 m Seminary\, and has taught thousands of students at conferences and commu
 nities across the Jewish world. She is the recipient of the Maimonides Awa
 rd for Excellence in Jewish Education.\n\nAs editor in chief of Maggid Boo
 ks\, Fine worked closely with such leading scholars as Rabbi Adin Steinsal
 tz z”l and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks z”l\, publishing over a hundred titles
  of contemporary Jewish thought\, including several bestsellers and Nation
 al Jewish Book Award winners. She is also the former editor of Azure: Ide
 as for the Jewish Nation. Gila’s work has been featured in the BBC\, Ha
 aretz\, The Jerusalem Post\, The Jerusalem Report\, Tradition\, Jewish
  News\, and The Jewish Chronicle (which selected her as one of the ten m
 ost influential Brits in Israel). Haaretz has called her “a young woma
 n on her way to becoming one of the more outstanding Jewish thinkers of th
