Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies (WIJS) at Young Israel of New Rochelle is proud to present Yael Leibowitz on Sunday, November 15, 2020 @ 11:30 am (ET) on Zoom.  Yael Leibowitz will be the second speaker in the monthly scholarly programming offered by WIJS at YINR. She will speak on the subject “Satan’s Evolving Role in the Bible and Jewish Thought.”  As Leibowitz explained, the lecture will address “the concept, character, and image of Satan in Tanakh,” and then trace, textually, how Satan evolved over the course of Jewish history.

Leibowitz received her Master’s degree in Judaic Studies from Columbia University.  Prior to making Aliyah, Leibowitz taught Tanakh at Ramaz Upper School, and then joined the Judaic Studies faculty at Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women.  She has taught Continuing Education courses at Drisha Institute for Jewish Education and served as Resident Scholar at the Jewish Center of Manhattan.  She currently teaches at Matan Women’s Institute for Torah Learning in Israel on topics in Jewish Biblical thought and is a frequent lecturer in North America and the United Kingdom.  For more of Yael’s writing, visit: yaelleibowitz.com
