Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies (WIJS) at Young Israel of New Rochelle is proud to present Dr. Carol Meyers on Sunday, November 14, 2021 @ 10:30 am (ET) on Zoom. Meyers is the second speaker of the 2021-2022 season in the monthly scholarly programming offered by WIJS at YINR.
Dr. Carol Meyers is the Mary Grace Wilson Professor Emerita of Religious Studies at Duke University. She will speak on the topic: “Gender Gap”: The Bible, Archaeology, and Israelite Women. What can we learn about Israelite women if we use information from the Bible and also archaeology? These sources provide a glimpse into two important aspects of the lives of ordinary Israelite women—their roles in the household economy and in household religion— and offers surprising conclusions about women’s power.
