Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center Memory Keepers Cocktail Hour: Hannah Deutch To Speak

Please join the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center in the comfort and safety of your home on January 28 at 6 P.M. to hear Holocaust survivor, Hannah Deutch.

Hannah Deutch was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1922.  When she was a child, the family moved to Bochum.  They lived opposite a synagogue, which she saw going up in flames on Kristallnacht.  This took place on November 9 and 10 in 1938.  The Nazis burned synagogues all over Germany and Austria.  Jewish homes and businesses were vandalized and the first mass arrests of Jewish men and boys took place.

On February 2, 1939, Hannah left for England for the Kindertransport.  She was interned on the Isle of Man.  After her release, she became a registered nurse and joined the British army.  She married a Canadian soldier and moved to Canada as a Canadian war bride.  Hannah has two sons, but sadly her husband had been wounded during the war and died in 1949.

Hannah went to Chile to join her mother and later returned to Canada.  In 1962, she came to the United States and has since served in many leading positons in B’nai B’rith and the Jewish War Veterans, where upon completing her term as Queens County Council Commander this year, she was appointed to two Committees in the Department as well as to National.

Hannah is a frequent speaker on the Holocaust in the United States as well as by special invitation in Germany.

You will receive the Zoom link one day prior to the event.  If you have any questions, contact mjasper@hhrecny.org
