YOU SHALL NOT SUFFER A SORCERESS TO LIVE: WITCHCRAFT & MAGIC IN THE BIBLE AND ITS WORLD

Dr. Sharon Keller

Sunday, February 7, 2021 11 am

The community is invited to learn from Dr. Sharon Keller on Sunday, February 7 at 11am on Zoom with the Greenburgh Hebrew Center of Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Witchcraft and Magic are not the first things that come to mind when thinking about the Bible, yet each of these provocative topics is an essential part of some of the Bible’s most familiar lessons and stories. Join us for a fun, engaging hour as we study some often over looked tidbits of ancient Israelite customs, biblical text, stories and laws in light of the ancient contemporary environment.

Dr. Sharon Keller earned her PhD at the NYU Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies in Bible and the Ancient Near East. She is on the Classics faculty at Hofstra where she teaches courses like “Women in the Hebrew Bible” and “Magic, Miracle, and Medicine in the Ancient World”.  She has been an Assistant Professor at JTS and Hebrew Union College. Her most popular book, Jews: A Treasury of Art and Literature, was awarded the National Jewish Book Award. Sharon is known for her enthusiasm and humor and for making otherwise esoteric subjects easily accessible!
