SUMMARY:YINR - Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies to Bring Dr. Shaina
 Trapedo via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies (WIJS) at Young Israel
of New Rochelle is proud to present Dr. Shaina Trapedo on Wednesday\, March
6\, 2024 @ 8:15 pm (ET) on Zoom.  Trapedo will be the seventh speaker of
the 2023-2024 season in the monthly scholarly programming offered by WIJS
at YINR.\n\nDr. Trapedo’s lecture is entitled “The Bard and the Hebrew
Bible.”  Shakespeare's deep familiarity with the Bible is apparent in
over one thousand references throughout the plays that made him one of the
most popular writers of the Elizabethan stage. And while his impact on the
development of the Western literary tradition is undoubted\, scholars
continue to ask why the bard saturated his dramatic scripts with
scripture\, particularly from the "Old Testament." Dr. Trapedo will explore
moments when Shakespeare specifically turns to verses and narratives from
the Hebrew Bible to understand how his plays appealed to the collective
consciousness of his day and to what extent his timeless texts are shaped
by Jewish tradition.\n\nDr. Shaina Trapedo is an Assistant Professor of
English at Stern College and a resident scholar at the Straus Center for
Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University. She received her
undergraduate degree at Barnard College and her PhD in English from UC
Irvine\, where she specialized in early modern literature and religious
studies. Her current book project\, From Scripture to Script: The Hebrew
Bible on the Early English Stage\, considers Shakespeare and his
contemporaries' indebtedness to Judaism and its exegetical traditions. In
her teaching and scholarship\, she explores the connections between
 literacy\, cultural identity\, and social engagement.\n\nAll WIJS
programming is open to women and men.  Please
visit www.yinr.org/wijs.html to view the complete WIJS 2023-24
schedule.  For more information\, to be added to the WIJS email list\, or
for Zoom information\, please call 914-636-2215 or email: wijs@yinr.org.
Individuals on the WIJS mailing list will automatically receive the Zoom
 information.

Resilience of a Divided Nation In a Turbulent World by Dan Senor and Saul
Singer\n\n"...while [the authors’] timing couldn't be worse\, the volume
does offer important insights into a nation that has punched far above its
weight even as it now grapples with existential crises both external and
internal. If Israelis recover from the brutal Hamas attack of Oct. 7 and
re-establish national equilibrium\, what's written in this book will help
reveal how they did it." - Ethan Bronner\, NY Times Book Review\,

SUMMARY:JCCMW-The Once and Future Queen: A Star Among Stars
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an unforgettable
performance of The Once and Future Queen\, a captivating interpretation of
the timeless tale of Purim\, intricately woven with themes of courage\,
resilience\, and the challenges faced by today’s youth.\n\nThrough the
graceful art of dance\, we delve into the lives of Queens Vashti and
Esther. Set against the backdrop of a kingdom in turmoil\, their stories
unfold\, showcasing their unwavering bravery and resilience in the face of
adversity.\n\nIn this innovative retelling\, we draw parallels between the
struggles of Vashti and Esther and the modern-day challenges encountered by
children\, particularly the pervasive issue of bullying. As the ballet
unfolds\, audiences are invited to reflect on the profound impact of
bullying on young lives and the importance of standing up against
injustice.\n\nThe Once and Future Queen is choreographed by Ho-Shia Thao\,
Marika Brussel\, and Jessica Whitehorne for the Dance School of JCC
Mid-Westchester with original music by Mahlon Berv. Performed by students
from JCCMW’s youth and adult divisions with professional dancers from
